Nestled in the heart of Studio City, KIWAMI by Katsu-ya offers an exceptional sushi dining experience that has quickly become a beloved destination for both locals and sushi aficionados alike. Specializing in authentic Japanese cuisine, this elegant sushi restaurant skillfully balances traditional flavors with innovative touches, creating a menu that entices the palate at every turn.
At KIWAMI, freshness is paramount, and it truly shows in every meticulously crafted dish. Standout offerings include the Red Snapper Sushi, with its delicate, buttery texture; the vibrant Yellowtail Sashimi topped with a hint of fiery jalapeño; and the indulgent Crab Stuffed Tuna Sashimi, a divine combination of ocean treasures. Sushi lovers can indulge in the prized Uni Sea Urchin, savor the melt-in-your-mouth Super Toro, or delight in the robust flavors of the Black Caviar Sushi. For those seeking variety, the Salmon Special Sushi and Chirashi Sushi offer colorful and artistically presented plates that’re as much a feast for the eyes as the taste buds.
The menu also caters to those who appreciate harmonious side dishes and warming soups. The Nameko Miso Soup, brimming with earthy mushrooms, is a comforting start, while the Nabeyaki Udon offers a hearty, satisfying option. Light, crisp vegetable sides like the Shishito Peppers sautéed in soy sauce or the refreshing Cucumber Sunomono provide balance and texture to the meal.
Dessert at KIWAMI is where playful creativity shines, with delicacies such as Green Tea Tempura Ice Cream drizzled with chocolate sauce and traditional Mochi Ice Cream rounding out the meal on a sweet, memorable note. Pair your meal with a refreshing Ice Green Tea to cleanse the palate between bites.
The ambiance at KIWAMI is a refined yet inviting blend of cozy and upscale. Guests have praised the attentiveness and warmth of the staff, noting how servers like the ever-friendly Hanna make the experience feel personalized and genuine. Though the space can feel intimate, its lively energy creates a vibrant atmosphere perfect for date nights or casual dinners with friends. A word of caution from some diners: the seating is on the closer side, so if privacy is a must, it’s good to keep that in mind.
What truly sets KIWAMI by Katsu-ya apart is the consistent quality and thoughtful attention to detail that shines through every aspect — from the impeccable knife work on sashimi, the beautifully plated rolls, to accommodating specific dining preferences like substituting brown rice.
Whether you’re craving the crunchy satisfaction of a Spider Roll, the zest of a Sesame Spicy Tuna, or the savory comfort of Teppan Chicken Breast with Apple Ginger Sauce, KIWAMI delivers. As one loyal guest puts it, every bite is a “perfect balance of flavor, freshness, and presentation,” making KIWAMI by Katsu-ya not just a meal, but a memorable culinary journey.
Walked by while attempting to choose our date location, and just by looking in the atmosphere seemed great! I ordered the Brussel Sprouts as an appetizer and BOY OH BOY!!! As my roll, I ordered the spider roll. The presentation was WOW and our server was amazing as well. Very attentive, friendly, and fast. Yummm we will be coming back.
The tables are so close together you could basically taste the food from the people next to you. And if you try to have a private conversation? Forget it — the neighbors can hear every word like they’re part of the group.
We walk here all the time and this is our go to Sushi spot in the Valley. The staff is always so inviting and attentive. Never had an issue with service and the food has always been consistent. Not to mention, I do not eat white rice and they are able to everything with brown rice. The salmon special in the picture is unreal the hostess Hanna was awesome!! She deserves a separate shout out.
Absolutely Outstanding Sushi Experience! This place is a hidden gem for sushi lovers! Every bite was a perfect balance of flavor, freshness, and presentation. The fish was incredibly fresh you can taste the quality in every roll and sashimi cut. The toro literally melted in my mouth, and the spicy tuna had just the right kick. The ambiance was cozy yet upscale, perfect for a casual dinner or a special date night. The chefs clearly take pride in their craft, and the staff was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable with great recommendations.
My favorite sushi spot in the valley. Quality, value and taste are all top notch. Also a great happy hour during the weekend!
Absolutely delicious! I’ve been here dozens of times and it never fails to impress me. Definitely make a reservation as it usually is pretty packed. Their baked crab hand rolls are perfect.
